[adkmqhac] Slow intelligence

If we encountered life that is intelligent but thinks extremely slowly, would we recognize it as intelligent?  Perhaps the method of communication between "neurons" within its "brain" is not electrical impulses but something much slower.  Does other intelligent life exist on Earth?

Previously: (1) and (2)

Perhaps we could recognize intelligent life by its works.  What works signify intelligence?  Tools, modifying its environment, apparatus for scientific investigation...

Can slowly thinking intelligent life even exist?  Any life has to fight the forces of entropy and intelligent life seems to have to fight it a lot.  Maybe there's a minimum speed you can think below which the current forces of entropy destroy any chance at intelligence.  Obviously entropy will destroy any tools and other works of intelligence.
