Modify a real sword so that it glows. This is in contrast to prop light sabers which do the opposite, modifying a glowy thing to be sword shaped, so missing out on it being a real, effective weapon.
Simplest would be to stamp or etch a corner-reflective pattern along the length of the sword, then use a light source from the same direction as the observer or camera.
