[ufbpoqez] The William Shakespeare Entertainment Company

Imagine an alternate universe where copyright law was as strong 500 years ago as it is today.

Entertainment "today" in the alternate universe is dominated by a vast multinational megacorporation, the William Shakespeare Entertainment Company, operating everything from theme parks to movie studios to television networks, and which exercises its wealth as political power to maintain exclusive control over its copyrighted works, especially those of its namesake founder (who incidentally took advantage of the many works then in public domain on which to base his plays).

Obviously a reference to Disney, the most prominent lobbyist in favor of the 1998 Copyright Term Extension Act (Mickey Mouse Protection Act).
