[jrxlmxil] A virus for Intelligent Design

Let's say there's a virus which infects every DNA-based organism on the planet.  Upon infection, it rewrites genomes, deleting genes, copying genes from elsewhere, etc.  Viruses do do this: horizontal transfer.  Let's say this virus has existed since the dawn of life, and, over the generations, this virus is the main reason for genetic diversity on the planet, and the main reason species change over time.  Natural selection has had minimal effect: Darwin was wrong.  Let's say this virus went extinct 5772 years ago.

Prove this scientific theory to be false.

Inspired by X-Files black oil organism.
