[pxnrnhqr] Human instinct to strive

Imagine a society with aggressive income redistribution and little copyright and patent protection.  Nevertheless, people will still strive for excellence, work hard, build, create, etc. even though there is little financial incentive to do so: it is a biological instinct, probably related to the need to appear desirable to the opposite sex, to create productive children.

They might not do it as much in the absence of financial incentive, but lazily sitting on your butt all day, living off the dole, just seems empty: a life without meaning.

A problem: consuming entertainment is addictive.
